There's always been a lot of jokes about sexual abuse / assault, and definitely been bullshit that floats around on the internet about rape left and right.

I understand that something so serious and misunderstood creates good fodder for humor in that the tension is already there, a tension that is almost overwhelming. Nevertheless, lately I have been seeing that rape, incest, molestation, etc has really become this thing that when it actually hurts someone, doesn't get the right kind of attention to help people it actually affects. It's dealt with through memes, spoofs, or on the flipside, rumors, conjecture, and underhanded social maliciousness.

All jokes and bullshit rumors aside, I have always felt very strongly about the issues of sexual assault and abuse, have had a number of male and female friends that have experienced this, and, really in line with what xMikex was saying about the garbage that surrounded last night's show, maybe this is a great time to contribute to a positive difference.

It's an awkward discussion, and I'm not asking everyone to jump on board, but I figured I'd post some links for anyone that has been a victim of sexual abuse, knows someone who has, or is just plain curious about these issues. You don't need to respond, just click through, learn more, you can retain your privacy and anonymity.

It's a shame that the best we can get of this type of conversation, at times, is backbiting scene politics and vaguely illegal child pornography. I'm not condemning anyone, merely stating that if we're going to have a swamp of misinformation and satire, we should represent the stuff that can help, too.

If anyone else knows some good resources, especially around New England, feel free to append them.
