That's the reason he was fired. NY Times didn't want a columnist associated with warped views of common science.

Everything else was just NY Times looking for the right opportunity to get rid of him.

Also, people throw around the word "theory". In science, a theory is a conclusion based on results obtained through strenuous and repeated scientific method, that has not been refuted. In everyday speech, theory translates to FACT. So yes, he is correct in saying that "the scientific fact of evolution has contributed to the rise of fascism, communism, atheism, abortion, and genetics" ...because we're mammals with the still primitive stamp of a large frontal lobe and high adrenaline levels, we also live relatively short lives and are susceptible to all the downfalls of sentient thought.

In short, he can't whine about being fired from a semi-respectable newspaper that has some sort of reputation to uphold - he preached pseudoscience that the paper didn't want to be associated with, and now he's wondering why he got the boot.
