Those boss pedals are the worst most plastic overdriven solid-state sounding pieces of crap I've ever used. They sound so nifty in your bedroom when you're all turned down low, but once you turn them up they suck all the life out of your mids, no matter what the setting. It's also such a horribly plastic distortion sound, it completely dissapears in a mix.

If you want plastic, get the new line6 modeled distortion stomp. It's $139, and it'll sound just like the boss pedal, as well as a SLEW of others.

I reccomend the same towards the BBE unit. They make everything sound GREAT because it's such a dramatic difference at first. However, after a while it sucks out your soul.

The HM pedals and the bbe's are both geared towards giving you that "off the record" sound, polished and shiny. However when you take that and try to polish it more in the studio or at the soundboard, it ends up sounding like crap.

Final word: If you don't like your distortion, you more than likely need an EQ more than a new distortion.
